Majura "adopts" China in the Asian Cup

10 local clubs have thrown their support behind the 2015 AFC Asian Cup by adopting a country for the January tournament. Most Canberrans will be cheering on the Socceroos throughout the tournament, but since they don't play any games locally the clubs decided that they wanted to get behind the other nations that are playing at Canberra Stadium.

Asian Cup ambassador Claire Falls randomly drew countries for each of the teams to adopt and the Majura Football Club has drawn China.

Breakfast with the Socceroos

For those who haven't heard, this Saturday (14th June 2014) is the Socceroos' first World Cup game against Chile. Kick-off is at 8am. We have organised a big screen TV and we will be having a "breakfast with the Socceroos" morning at the clubhouse.

We will start serving breakfast at 7.30am. So if you thought you were going to miss the game because you had to be at Majura then think again. Bring a chair if you plan to be there for the whole game and some warm gear - the forecast is for rain. GO THE SOCCEROOS!

Football Connect at Majura this Saturday

This Saturday (14th June 2014) we have a round of Football Connect at Majura. There are six disability teams in this competition and one of them is Majura FC. Normally the games are played at Hawker but this year games are being played at clubs around Canberra and Majura is pleased to be the first club.

Football Connect games will start at 9am on the half fields set up on Field 2. Please come and support Football Connect teams, especially Majura FC.

Football First Aid Course at Majura

Majura FC is offering a Football First Aid Course on Sunday June 29 9.00am-12.00noon at the Majura Clubhouse. It is offered free to all Majura members and we'll provide morning tea as well.

Majura Coffee, Cupcakes, Curry and more....

Majura FC has a new coffee machine which means you can get real coffee made with fresh coffee beans and real milk and hot chocolate as well. You can also get one of Rhonda's now famous cupcakes or warm up with a curry or soup. Majura's canteen and BBQ is rated one of the best at any football ground in Canberra and all profits go to buy equipment for Majura players.

1v1 Coaching Clinic - Free for Majura Coaches

Keen to teach your team some Ronaldo moves? Majura is keen to develop some Ronaldos, Messis and even a few Socceroos so we have organised a Coerver 1v1 coaching course for Majura coaches. This 6 hour course is about instilling and creating exciting football players who play with creativity, passion, speed and skill in 1v1 situations. Sounds too good to miss and we'll give you lunch as well.

Goal Pack Away Every Saturday

Parents - please remember that if your child's team is highlighted in yellow on the draw at the clubhouse then your team needs to take their goals back to the containers at the southern side of Dickson fields.

All U/7, U/9 and U/11 teams need to take their goals to the container as they are the last age groups using their size goals. However some U/8 and U/10 teams are required to return goals as well. Some U/12 teams will also be required to take down their nets at the end of their game and return to the clubhouse. This will vary each week depending on the number of games scheduled to be played at Dickson.

Coach Registration

There are still quite a lot of Majura coaches that haven’t registered on My Football Club. Please do it now as it is quick, easy and free.

If you are a coach of a team from U/12 – U/18 then you must enter your F FA number on the match card so you need to Register. Majura can be fined $20 every time you don’t fill in your FFA number. The My Football Club website also has some great resources for coaches including session plans and skills drills so check them out while you’re there.

FIFA Concussion Recognition Tool

As accidents and injuries from impacting the head may cause concussion it is extremely important that all football clubs and coaches can recognise and safely manage concussion.

Medical professionals and assistance should always be sought following a head injury, however to assist in recognising and managing concussion on a sporting field all clubs, coaches and officials are encouraged to refer to the one page Concusssion Recognition Tool produced by FIFA.

Reminders and Tips for the 2014 Season

Here are a few tips and reminders that will help:

  • If you're in an U/10 or older competition then check the Sporting Pulse website for your draw. Draws for U/7 to U/9 competitions can be found on the games part of this website. Draws will also be listed on the notice board outside the clubhouse every Saturday.
  • If you haven't already got socks, shorts or shin pads, the shop at the Clubhouse will be opened between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Wednesday 30 April, Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May. It is expected to be very busy on Saturday 3 May.
  • Information on closed sports-grounds due to inclement weather is provided by the ACT Government as recorded service on (02) 6207 5957.
  • Please do not park on the traffic islands on Antill Street. In the past traffic operations have fined vehicles parked there.
  • Please do not bring pets to the games. Pets are not allowed on ACT sports-grounds during game days (or when training is being conducted) and the rangers will issue fines.
  • Finally, please remember the important role our referees perform and we ask you not to speak to them or yell out about refereeing decisions. Team coaches can talk to them at half time if there is something that they need to be aware of.
  • If the toilets need attention, or the hand towel or soap has run out, please come to the clubhouse and let us know.

What's Important at Majura in 2014?

When kids PLAY football - it's just a GAME

  • It's their game, not yours
  • It's for children, not for adults
  • It's not the World Cup, English Premier League, Bundesliga or Primera Liga

...so please relax and just let them play. Let the coach do the coaching. Let the ref do the reffing. And be thankful and supportive of all of them....
